New Technology Speeds Up Investigations in Camden

Forensics Forum

The Camden County Police Department has hired experts in forensics and obtained new technology that allows them to conduct DNA testing and other crime scene investigative work on-site, rather than shipping off the evidence to Trenton, where it could take anywhere from eight months to a year to obtain results. The Department hopes that a quick turnaround of testing will increase the speed in which perpetrators are arrested.

New technology includes a drying machine, a fumer to detect fingerprints, an Omnichrome machine that also detects DNA and fingerprints, and a National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) machine. The NIBIN machine takes sophisticated photographs of ballistic materials and runs a comparison through a database of ballistics, as well as a database of ballistics used in other crimes in the area.

This project has been ongoing for over 10 years and it required many breaks and gigs and gigs of research. The subject isn't easy but it is important in my view. Thanks for stopping by. Feel free to drop me a line.
