A wrongful execution is any execution carried out by the government when due process was wrong. Due process was faulty in light of the knowledge of investigative procedures and forensic science in use today, or an outright lynching. Any execution carried out with faulty procedures or science was a wrongful execution if today that evidence would not be enough to prove guilt beyond a reason doubt. It may not be possible to prove factual innocence after decades, but it is possible to prove wrongful due process, and therefore wrongful execution.
